There are countless venues near or in State College, PA, home of the Nittany Lions! Though, not every venue can do it all in one shot…that is ceremony, reception, and lots of gorgeous photo opportunities! With that being said, with all the years we’ve been wedding photographers, Joel and I have compiled a list of five wedding venues in Centre County that we think are not only wonderful places to have your wedding, but are also our favorite places to photograph. Drumroll please!…….

#5 Harmony Forge Inn

Harmony Forge is a barn/rustic venue on our list, but with a bed and breakfast twist! The property grounds are beautiful and there are multiply locations available to have the ceremony outside. If it does rain, the ceremony can be done inside the barn. The beautiful stone house adjacent to the two barns gives the bride and groom a very accommodating option for a place to spend the night. The house also provides lots of light in the rooms and is nicely decorated making it an ideal place for the those getting ready photos or a back up if it rains. Outside, there are plenty of photo opportunities. Your guests can enjoy cocktails and play games out on the lawn or roast marshmallows at night by the fire pit. It truly is a down to earth, cozy, and yet charming venue that both you and your guests with enjoy!

Things to Consider: The main barn where the reception is held is neither air conditioned or has heat, so take into consideration the time of year when booking this venue and plan accordingly. We’ve seen people use space heaters in the fall or large fans in the summer. You would also need to hire a caterer and possibly rent tables/chairs. Bathrooms are in large portable restrooms outside the barn.

#4 Fern Hill Weddings (Formally McCann School of Art)

If you are an art and nature lover, then this venue is for you! Fern Hill captures all the beauty of tall forest trees growing in beds of green leafy ferns and provides plenty of photo opportunities around every stone stacked corner or sculpture. It’s serene, peaceful, and visually beautiful. There is a small pier and bridge in the middle of the pond down below the main property that is always a crowd favorite. Wedding guests have the opportunity to explore the art gallery building during the cocktail hour (which can also work for photos if it rains), walk the peaceful pathways around the property, or sit in the sculpture garden. Ceremonies are typically done in the sculpture garden with the bride and groom under a large ornate gazebo. Receptions can be either inside the art school, but are normally under the pavilion outside. The good thing is guests can use the bathrooms inside the art school rather than having to rent portable restrooms. You and your wedding party can spend the night in the large cabins on the property which also make a nice space for getting ready photos. Fern Hill definitely provides charm, culture, and a unique choice for a wedding venue if you’re searching for something different.

Things to Consider:  Because majority of the wedding may be outside, plan accordingly for the weather. If you still want to have the reception outside in the pavilion due to space constraints (since the art school is limited), plan to have space heaters if your wedding is in the fall. Similar to General Potter Farm, you would need to hire caterers and possibly rent tables/chairs. And though the surrounding areas are beautiful, you would need to put more planning into decorating the reception (perfect for any DIY Pinterest bride).

#3 Nittany Lion Inn

If you are the bride and groom who bleeds blue and white, this venue is perfect for you. Not only is it on Penn State’s campus, but the Inn is an old historic building with lots of character and ties to any Penn State alumni. Inside the Inn, the main ballroom is very large and spacious with a big beautiful chandelier hanging in the center. The food is also delicious. They are known for their restaurant/bar, Whiskers, The Dining Room for fine dining, and the popular brunch buffet every Sunday. The rooms/suites have blue and white charm and are nice for those getting ready photos. Outside the Inn, it is well kept with seasonal flowers and photo opportunities either around the Inn or within walking distance to the Lion Shrine and campus. While not as commonly done, they do ceremonies outside on the back patio. We ironically haven’t done a ceremony at the Nittany Lion since many of our couples have used the campus chapel or churches downtown for a ceremony location. Though we have photographed many with the cocktails on the patio or inside the atrium that’s adjacent to the ballroom and Whiskers. The staff staff is also very attentive, courteous, and professional.

Things to Consider: Because the ballroom is very spacious (though nice), if you’re not having a large wedding, it can look a little empty. There are smaller rooms downstairs of the Inn, but may need more on the decorating side if a boardroom style room is not your initial vision. Also, since Penn State has year round events, the Inn can be very popular, especially on football game weekends, which will either limit their availability or the prices will GREATLY increase.

#2 General Potter Farm

We have a special love for General Potter Farm! Binky Lush, the owner, is simply lovely and delightful. Both the farm and the barn where the reception is held has lots of rustic charm. The ceremony can either be outside down by the beautiful woodsy stream, or inside the barn downstairs against the old stone walls. We’ve photographed both types of ceremonies, and they are equally as beautiful. The great thing about this barn is that it’s not so rustic that it doesn’t have central air or heat like others we’ve been to which is amazing when you like the look of a shabby chic wedding without feeling too shabby. 😉 A big plus is that the bathrooms are inside the barn, not outside; making it a great venue all year round. You also have the option of going lighter on the decorations since the barn itself is charming and already has stringed lights and a nice chandelier for ambiance. The grounds surrounding the main barn are beautiful with lots of variety and options to work with. Cocktails can either be downstairs in the barn or outside. There is space for the bridal party to get ready in a large back room that can be sectioned off if you want both the bridesmaids and groomsmen to get ready without seeing each other (or you have the men or women get ready elsewhere).

Things to consider: There is a kitchen to use, but there is not a cooking staff provided, and so you will need to hire a catering/bar company. You would possibly need to rent tables and chairs as well. There is not a place to stay at the venue, so you would also need to book hotel rooms for you and your party. Wedding guests can be bussed to and from hotels to your venue, so that you don’t have to worry about drunk driving. Another good thing is that you rent the place for the weekend, and so you will have extra time to setup and tear down for your event (perfect for the bride who has a lot of DIY details that take time to setup).

#1 Toftrees Resort

And our top pick is…….Toftrees Resort! There are lots of pros when booking your wedding at this venue! Not only will the wedding party and your guests have a space to spend the night, the resort consists of beautiful woodsy and scenic views for your wedding photos. There are also suites designated for the bridal party’s use to get ready, the outdoor ceremony location is beautiful overlooking the lake and golf course grounds, the food is amazing (try the very popular restaurant The Field for happy hour and delicious gourmet burgers), the staff is friendly (Event Coordinator, Katie Clegg is amazing). The large ballroom doesn’t look like a boardroom and has character, and if the weather is nice, your cocktail hour has a beautiful backdrop view of the grounds out on the patio. To the folks who like to golf and want to a play a round before the wedding, have I mentioned the golf course?

Things to consider: If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor ceremony, the inside option can be pretty, but needs love with DIY decorations since it’s a boardroom. Options for a variety of photos can also be challenging inside the resort if it’s a complete rain out, but this is why hiring a photographer who can roll with the weather changes is important. Some of our favorite photos this year have been from rainy weddings at which happened to be at Toftrees. Click here to see!

So there it is…our list! We have had the privilege of photographing many wonderful venues during our photographic careers. Depending on what you’re looking for, many other venues would also be just as charming and accommodating. However, as far as all inclusive concerns, these five venues surely take the wedding cake! We hope you enjoyed our list or at least were inspired to visit one of these lovely venues and see for yourselves!

Honorable Mentions: Though they didn’t make our list, these other venues are definitely worth checking out! 🙂

It’s that time of year again when the air is brisk, pumpkin spice is bursting off store shelves, and the leaves are slowly dying a very very pretty death. I’m not gonna lie…fall IS my favorite time of year! I love the fall colors, the sweaters, the hot cocoa, the holidays are coming, and it’s not too cold yet for you to start wishing it was summer again!

Though when it comes to wedding planning, fall can either be a breath of fall fresh air, or a challenge (depending on your location). We personally, my husband and I, originally wanted a fall wedding, but ended up having our wedding a week before Christmas! I’ll have to right a blog about the pros and cons to having a Christmas wedding later. Since we’ve been wedding photographers for 15+ years, we’ve seen it all, and so here are some tips/pros and cons to planning a fall wedding!

#1 A fall color scheme or something different?

For this category I’m going to break it up into two main sections. Essentially, it’s your wedding, and you can incorporate any colors you would like. However, if you want to stick to color seasonal trends, here are some ideas:

Purples

When you think of colors of fall leaves, there are shades of reds, oranges, and golds. Thanks to my art school training, the opposite and complimentary color of yellow is purple so it would be safe to say purple would be an ideal color to use for a fall wedding. We’ve seen brides incorporate different shades of purple or use a deep richer purple. Purple tends to look good on everyone and is very visually appealing when paired with fall colors. Whether you plan to bring a lot of purple into your wedding planning or a little is up to you, but here are some ways that our brides have used purple.

Blues, Reds, and Oranges

Another color that is pretty popular for fall weddings is blue. Blue and orange are complimentary colors, but can also look very classy when paired with reds. In particular, the men of the wedding party will look very handsome in navy suits while adding a splash of seasonal color or red to little details, ties, or the flowers. Or you can ditch the blue and just stick to traditional fall seasonal colors. The only only thing about orange (and yellows) is that not everyone will look good wearing this color, so it’s best to use it as an accent color rather than a main color.

#2 What fall decor should I use?

The fall season can actually be one of the easiest for DIY weddings. If you want a more rustic look, just look out in your back yard or nearby woods for inspiration. Adding pine cones, greens, twigs, and stumps can be very easy and cheap to use for decorating a rustic fall wedding. Sometimes all you need is a little inspiration (and a chainsaw), and that’s what Pinterest and blogs are for! I would say if you want to incorporate fall elements into your decorating it’s best to go subtle rather than over the top. Don’t have your decorations try to outdo each other or look like you just walked into a Halloween or fall craft store (unless that’s your thing…no judgement). So if you want to add pumpkins and mums to you wedding decor, go for it! They are easy to find and it’s a way to add color while sticking with your fall theme. Heck, you can even grow the pumpkins yourself if you’re the gardening type! And there are lots of options of either keeping them simple or using them in unique ways. Scroll down and take a look.

#3 What to plan ahead? The weather? What else?

So this one, of course like any seasonal wedding, has it’s pros and cons. What if it rains? What if it’s too cold? How long will I have daylight? So the pros to having a fall wedding are it’s not going to be too hot (especially if you pick a date in late Sept or October), the colorful leaves make a beautiful backdrop to your ceremony and picture planning, and it can be easy to decorate fall themed weddings. However, with having a fall wedding, not only do you need to plan in case it rains, but you also need to plan if it happens to SNOW. Yes, we’ve seen temperatures drop unseasonably on wedding days leaving the bride and her party to just grin and bare it.

It’s best, like any wedding, to plan ahead:

  • Make sure when you are planning your timeline that your don’t schedule your picture time later in the day when it’s past daylight savings time. You won’t have the daylight left unless you want night photos.
  • Make sure football games or other seasonal events won’t get in the way of your day. Out here in “Lion Country” at Penn State, no bride wants to have her wedding on a home football game weekend (cray cray)!
  • Be prepared for the cold for your guests if the reception is outside by providing enough space heaters and areas to block the wind. We’ve seen guests leave very early due to the cold. If you want outdoor photos, plan to have you and your girls wear either shawls or furs. Take coats with you or provide ways to take breaks to get warm again. Every bride says she’ll be fine in cold before the day, but tends to change her mind once she’s bare shouldered in the cold.

By not making plans ahead of time, your enjoyment of the day will suffer, and we don’t want that to happen!

#4 Food planning and sweet treats are easy!

Candy, trail mix, and pies are all on the table with a fall wedding! Even your dinner menu can resemble a Thanksgiving meal! The yummy pumpkin spice is a hit among guests and can be used in different ways. We’ve seen pumpkin spiced cake and pumpkin pies both being served at a weddings! Both are delicious and are a crowd favorite. Candy tables, candied apples, candy corn, hot apple cider, pumpkin scented candles, flavored teas for favors, and the list goes on! There are literally so many fall favorite delicious options!

#5 I Want Those Fall Photos!

So if the reason you are having a fall wedding is to get those incredible fall photos, then   you are not alone! Lots of brides LOVE fall mainly because they have fallen in love with the gorgeous color of the season! If this is the case for you, plan to have your wedding during the peak time of fall in the area of your wedding. For central PA, peak times tend to be mid-late October. Of course each season is different, some falls tend to be better than others and for that, there’s no planning. It’s best to have your wedding or photos being taken in the forest or very wooded areas. I know…a no brainer, right? But you will be surprised how many parks don’t have those beautiful leaves that you see in neighborhoods or on the side of the highways. Joel and I always wonder why the best fall trees are always planted in parking lots at shopping malls. My advice would be is to ask your photographer where the best place is to get those fall leaves especially if your venue won’t provide the fall backdrop opportunity. And be flexible. Most fall locations may look great a week prior to the wedding and then change because of a bad rainstorm the following weekend. It’s what Joel and I call “The Great Fall Chase” each year…literally chasing the fall leaves anywhere they look best.

#6 So what if I still want fall photos, but I don’t want my wedding in October?

This is for the bride who loves fall, but may not have the chance to have a fall wedding or wants extra fall picture opportunities! Do an engagement session during the fall. They are easier to plan, and you are almost guaranteed those fall leaves in your pictures (I say almost because nothing is ever definite). Some brides will have a fall wedding and schedule a fall engagement session to match the wedding for “Save the Dates.” Or if you know for fact you will not be having a fall wedding, but still want some fall photos, an engagement session in the fall will be sure to fulfill that fall photo itch. Plus, you can always reschedule a shoot if it rains or you’re sick, but not a wedding! You have more flexibility since there’s less pressure and 100+ guests are not attending!

Best case for any bride…plan ahead…enjoy the moment…and go with the flow! Even if your wedding is fall-TASTIC or just hinting of fall, it will be a beautiful remembrance of the day that you and your love have become one..(and they lived happily…ever…after!).

Not every bride includes pink in the color scheme while planning her wedding, but over the years we’ve seen it become more of a trend. Whether they were used a little or a lot, the pinks that we’ve seen have ranged from bold hot magenta pinks, corals, to soft pinks, blush, and almost “barely there” pinks. If you’re a bride who likes (or even LOVES) pink, but not sure how to use it, here is some inspiration for you on how our past brides have incorporated pink on their wedding day!

#1 The Flowers…an easy way to use pink!

#2 “Getting Ready” Outfits…a girl gang’s trademark!

#3 Bridesmaids dresses…pink is a flattering color on pretty much everyone!

#4 Cakes and Sweet Treats…when you’d rather eat it than wear it! 😉

#5 Receptions, Decorating, and Details…go subtle or go bold!

#6 Accessories and Footwear…just a simple touch!

#7 Menswear…guys look good in pink too!

Don’t Let A Rainy Wedding Day Get You Down https://www.jandaphoto.com/7-reasons-why-you-should-embrace-your-rainy-wedding-day/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=7-reasons-why-you-should-embrace-your-rainy-wedding-day https://www.jandaphoto.com/7-reasons-why-you-should-embrace-your-rainy-wedding-day/#respond Fri, 28 Jun 2019 14:34:54 +0000 http://www.jandaphoto.com/?p=17795 The post Don’t Let A Rainy Wedding Day Get You Down appeared first on J&A Photography.

As girls, we dream about our wedding day even before we become brides. Then finally you meet THE ONE, and you can finally put your dream wedding into action! It may be a mountainous scenic outdoor ceremony or a garden fairy inspiration from the stories you so loved as a child. Whatever the case may be, you’ve been planning this wedding since you’ve been 9 years old and yet as your wedding day approaches, so does the infamous doom of rain clouds that could potentially DESTROY…IT……ALL!!! So you think….

Despite the looming forecast and anxiety, we wanted to share some reasons why you should embrace your rainy wedding day. After 15 years in this business, we’ve seen it all and have come across some bad weather situations (and it’s not like you can cancel the wedding)! But we hope the photos and reasons below may give you some hope if rainy weather seems to pour into the very bane of your wedding planning existence!

#1: The forecast calls for rain, but it often doesn’t rain ALL day

At times luck is on our side and it rains during the ceremony while we’re inside the church or while we’re indoors at the reception. We realize it doesn’t always perfectly happen this way, but allowing yourself to be flexible on planning (that is have a back up plan) can allow you to relax too. Often too after a storm has passed, the light will be soft and gorgeous or a fog will come in. And if you’re really lucky, both together can create this beautifully serene atmosphere.

#2: Photos with umbrellas and rain are unique

Truth be told, some of our favorite photos have come from rainy wedding days. Whether it be the light, or the romance of rain falling while the bride and groom embrace under an umbrella is just beautiful.

#3: When it rains, look for rainbows…quite literally!

On some occasions when we photographed weddings with rain in the morning or afternoon, we were then rewarded with rainbows in the skies at the end of day. They are rare and hard to capture, but that’s what makes them so special! Regardless of the rain, the rainbow that comes afterwards is magical, and the lasting memory of that on your wedding day will out live the doom and gloom of the rain.

#4: Have fun with it!

Yes, I know this is easier said than done and especially if it’s a great disappointment to you. First, give yourself an opportunity to mourn. If you have to cry it out, vent to your girlfriends, or pop the champagne early, so be it. But then just go all in and have fun with it! I can’t tell you what a difference it makes when we see brides just let themselves enjoy their day despite their weather expectations! Choose joy, and don’t let the rainy weather get you down.

#5: Let your photographer be creative

Yes having it rain on your wedding day can be challenging to any photographer, but this is why hiring a professional who has experience and back up plans is key! Plus, having a rainy wedding allows us to think outside the box, play, and experiment to which you walk away with truly unique and amazing photos! It’s nice for us to think creatively out of the box for a change when we’ve been used to photographing at the same locations.

#6: Indoor photos can be beautiful

Yes all the greenery is beautiful too, but having a nice back up indoor location for photos can be just as beautiful and unique. We’ve done a lot with off camera lighting and natural light from windows. And we’ve traveled to museums, used the inside of churches, bed and breakfasts, or pretty covered locations for photos to combat the rain. (**It’s best to call ahead if you want to use a location that is questionable on permission.)

#7: Rain may put a damper on your wedding plans, but not in your marriage

In the end, the love of your life is still by your side. You both have taken a vow to love each other…in sickness and in health, until death due you part…so you can certainly face the rain together. That’s how life works, isn’t it? It’s messy, but that’s why we need Jesus and each other. So after all the rain, in life and in actuality, look for the rainbows because they will be well worth the wait.

We have been so lucky and blessed to have such beautiful weather on our wedding dates this year! Maybe I shouldn’t even say it out loud in case I curse the next wedding! 😉 Well there was no luck needed for this sweet couple who are ever so happy in love with each other!

We started our “getting ready” photos with Justin, the groom, along with his friends and men of the family. It was nice to see the dads of the wedding get into the spirit of being photographed. I don’t think they minded it too much. These men looked pretty handsome while striking a pose at Penn State’s Lion Shrine. Most especially Mr. Groom and his Ring Bearer, whom we couldn’t get enough of with his newsboy cap and bow tie!

While we were doing photos of the guys, Meredith, our bride, and her girls were nice and comfy at the Nittany Lion Inn. When we arrived, the girls all donned their beautiful matching silk robes. I so love this trend! The bridesmaids’ dresses were Penn State navy blue and resembled Meredith’s beautiful gown with the lace and button detail. Oh ladies, this bridal gown!!! I think Meredith fell in love with this dress for the same reason we did! So much so, that her accents and table decor at the reception reminded us of her gown. Very classic, vintage, and chic!

After their photos, I took a trolly ride with the girls to Penn State’s Arboretum where their ceremony was to take place. The Arboretum is really nice year round and offers a cool place for a wedding ceremony at the overlook pavilion. The ceremony itself was both beautiful visually and in spirit. Song of Solomon (Song of Songs) was their choice scripture for the wedding and if you have ever read it in the Bible, it is a book of true romance! God is love and there was much love present during the day! 🙂

We took a photography tour with the newly weds and their bridal party at different spots at the Arboretum and Penn State Campus. A very special place for Justin and Meredith was their tailgating spot. Almost a year ago we had taken a photo of them at their spot during their engagement session. It was a great wedding inspirational moment and sweet photo of our couple, now man and wife, holding a framed photo of their engagement photo while getting a wedding photo at this exact memorable place. I think this tradition will be continued for years to come! 🙂

We now come to the final chapter of the wedding day, the reception (a.k.a. party time!), at General Potter Farm. It seemed like the whole wedding was out on the dance floor with Bachelor Boys Band’s greatest cover songs! We were able to capture awesome dancing moments, cake cutting, and that fun and traditional bouquet and garter toss! Plus, we had a few minutes to pull the bride and groom out for some glowing light and “thank you” photos. Speaking of thank you’s, all said and done, we mustn’t forget these ladies, Holly and Kacey from H&K Events, who were working hard behind the scenes and making sure Justin and Meredith had an amazing day! Last, but not least, the “icing on the wedding cake” moment (pun intended) and closing of the night was Justin and Meredith’s sparkle send off! What an amazing day! Meredith and Justin, may God bless your marriage and may you always remember your happiest moments together! 🙂

What a beautiful Spring day for a wedding! Lindsay and Aaron’s wedding was full of beauty, elegance, and fun. This bride LOVES photos and certainly has an eye for composition, style, and lighting herself. Lindsay’s father, Gary, happens to be a retired wedding photographer so it must run in the family. 😉  We love it when our clients get into the photo process. It’s like we’re all working together to make art. Their artwork, most especially, is dear to their hearts because it is what will be on their walls and in their wedding album left for their children and grandchildren to see for years to come!

It was a marathon of photos for sure! We started with both bride and groom getting ready (Joel with the guys and I will the ladies). Lindsay was so attentive to every touch and detail. Even their sweet little dog was dressed for the occasion. I’m such a sucker for cute doggies in bow ties! Before we raced off to get Lindsay married, we were able to capture some beautiful photos of her, her ladies, and parents.

Lindsay and Aaron’s ceremony was at St. John’s Episcopal Church. We just love the old red doors and stone architecture. Many of downtown Bellefonte’s churches have an old charm about them. After Lindsay and Aaron said their “I do’s,” their church exit was especially unique. Rather than throwing the traditional rice or blowing bubbles as they exit, instead their wedding guests threw lavender at them! That’s right! From far away, it may look like rice, but the lavender was a signature fragrance of their wedding. I’m sure each time I have the opportunity to smell lavender for all my remaining days on this earth, I will remember Lindsay and Aaron’s wedding. Before their exit, I was crouched down in front of the guests ready to take their photos. Not really thinking what would happen to me in the process, as our lovely couple came out of the church, the lavender soared through the air, and landed all over me! Well, it felt like it anyway. I think Joel had the smart approach to take his photos while following them out of the church. Although I was completely covered in lavender (very possible it appeared that I had lice), I smelled quite lovely. 😉

The party bus was ready to take our bridal crew to the Courthouse in town for some sentimental photos. Lindsay happens to work at the Courthouse and it also makes a really cool backdrop for photos. We were able to get a couple of dramatic shots of the bride and groom as well as fun photos with the rest of the party. Then, off to General Potter Farm for the rest of photos and their reception. I must say, Aaron is very patient and truly loves his wife. For the fact that photo time isn’t always a “top” priority on a groom’s list on the wedding day, he most definitely was very attentive and giving. 🙂

At the reception we got an extra treat to work with awesome vendors who we know and love (a.k.a. The Dream Team):

Alex Nepa, DJ and owner of Mint DJ Events

Alyssa and Brandon, owners of  Wink! Photo Booths

Cori and Megan, wedding planners, from B Events

Not only do we all love our jobs and take pride in doing our best, we also love to have fun too! Here we all are crammed in one glorious photo, courtesy of Wink!

18156073_10154647241546733_4815277270599005229_o

The reception was a blast as everyone was out on the dance floor enjoying Alex Nepa’s mixes and beats! The guests were able to enjoy this fun beautiful wedding from start to finish. As a closing, Lindsay and Aaron made their final wedding exit under the glow of sparkles. You couldn’t have asked for a better day! Lindsay and Aaron, may your life together and marriage be full of love and lighthearted fun as it was on your wedding day! And thank you so much for choosing us to be a part of your beautiful day!

Blessings,

Andrea

Adriane and Mike, where to begin? This is a wedding we’ve been looking forward to for years. Even before they were engaged and maybe even before they knew each other we met Adriane. First at her sister’s wedding, then doing a fun photoshoot for her, and even finding out we go to the same church! The whole way along though we knew that when the time came, Adriane would have a fantastic wedding and be a stunning bride. We were definitely not let down.

Actually, before we get to the wedding day and the images we have to share a funny tidbit. We met with Adriane who booked us for her wedding a good month or two BEFORE she was officially engaged! (We learned this by seeing their engagement announcement on Facebook) That is one confident girl who knows what she wants and how to get it – from her man and her photographer 🙂

Now, onto the wedding day. From the start everything was just gorgeous. The locations, the attention to detail, the attire, everything. From the getting ready photos, to General Potter Farm looking about as beautiful as we’ve ever seen it, Adriane had thoroughly thought through and planned out ever detail.

We were thrilled to be a part of such a fantastic wedding and the beginning of a beautiful relationship. We wish you all the best Adriane and Mike and we hope to see you again soon

A fantastic wedding with Michael and Stephanie!  We met them a few years ago at Michael’s best man Derek’s wedding.  Since then we have worked with Derek another time and with Stephanie’s sister and maid-of-honor Adriane, so it was great to see some familiar faces.  We always love seeing people we know and have worked with in the past, it really adds to the fun of the day for us.

We started the day with some getting ready and separate bridal party shots at the beautiful homes of Stephanie’s parents and Michael’s aunt.  They both were fantastic locations not only for the indoor preparation photos but the outdoor portraits and candids as well.  From there we headed to Boalsburg for the ceremony, campus for the bridal party pics, and finally to General Potter Farm for the reception.

We’ve been to General Potter Farm for any weddings and we’ve seen it dressed up really well.  That being said, Stephanie did and AMAZING job, we think it was the best we’ve ever seen it!

The whole days was just fantastic from start to finish and we had soooo much fun!  Big congratulations to a sweet couple, we hope you enjoy your pictures!

Say hello to Fiona!  This tall long haired beauty is our 2nd Senior Rep to be photographed this year.  She may be new to us taking her picture, but her family is no stranger to our photo services.  Both her older brother and sister have been to our studio for their senior pics.  So we definitely had a good feeling about Fiona and she certainly proved us right!

We first started in the studio, which I think we managed to pull out a “Cover Girl” shot from her photo shoot (seen down below).  She had the look and smile to pass for one anyway.  : )  We were about to go out back behind our studio to our Caribbean colored wall, but alas, it started to rain and we had to reschedule the rest of her shoot for a different (more dry) day.

Once we got together again, we went back to our brightly colored wall and she brought a stellar look to compliment the scenery.  Adding her high heels and a trendy bun, she must have stood 6 feet tall.  She is one long legged lady!  A couple of times during her shoot I either had to stand on the tip of my toes or on a small stool just to get a good angle on her. Despite the height difference between us, we made a good team and had a fun shoot.

We then traveled to General Potter Farm for the outdoor portion of her shoot, which was a good fit for Fiona’s style.  As soon as she pulled the boots and scarves out of her bag, we thought of the farm.  She too is an accessories girl!  We got some great woodsy and rustic shots of Fiona.  She really looked natural and beautiful in this setting.  Her mom, Mary, was along during her shoots and proved to make a great photo assistant as she held a light or a diffusion panel.  Hey, when you need another hand, mom always comes to the rescue, right!  Mary was a good sport about it and pleasantly held the extra light at times so that her daughter would get an awesome shot.  : )

Overall, we laughed, we posed, we got rained out, we trudged through the woods, we petted Nigel the goat (at the farm), and hopefully ended up with a great experience for Fiona as well as great photos.  Great job, Fiona and thank for being our Senior Rep!  –  Andrea : )
