For starters, I’ve always wanted to do a greenhouse photoshoot. We’ve all seen them on Instagram and Pinterest. It’s not new or original, yet I still had the desire to add it to our repertoire of photoshoots. The colorful, floral hanging baskets are an absolute dream. Seeing the array of succulents, ferns, wave petunias, geraniums, and vegetables just makes me happy—ironic since I typically kill every plant that I have ever been entrusted to care for. Thankfully, Joel is the green thumb between us!

But in this case, I wasn’t in charge of watering the plants; I was photographing them—more or less. They became a delightful, integrative scene for Tayla, a laid back, sweet, girl-next-door beauty who found herself at home amongst the greens and the flowers. So with Tayla styled and ready to go, the hanging baskets were the first to tackle on our list of shots, but we also found ourselves drawn to “Succulent City” and few spots outside of the greenhouse—including a long dirt road conveniently across the street to the greenhouse. All in all, we had fun and enjoyed our exploration and the glorious newness and creativity that came with it! Even the off and on rain didn’t bother us, which is another positive of photographing at a greenhouse—it’s covered!

So if you’ve read this far, it would be a shame not to mention Leo, the owner of the greenhouse. We chose Sammis Greenhouse for our location because not only is it one of the best and most gorgeous greenhouses in the area, but Leo is just about one of the nicest guys around. Not only does he care for plants, but he cares for people with the kindness and respect he gives to others. It was evident that he and his staff are just a great crew of awesome, plant knowledgable humans! I highly recommend visiting this greenhouse if not for the plants, then for the great conversation about them! And if you see a seasoned guy operating a forklift, most likely it’s Leo, so give him a wave and say hello. 🙂

Wardrobe: All the accessories are mine, but the floral skirt came from Tayla’s closet, which is what originally drew me to this look. The Queen shirt can be found on Amazon, and her jean jacket was a wonderful borrow from her friend Madelin, who you will also be seeing soon on our blog! 😉
