Rain is a word a photographer never wants to hear when planning an outdoor photoshoot. What we thought would be an overcast day for our Taylor “Cardigan” shoot—forecasted—turned out to be a monsoon of a morning and afternoon, leaving our evening hours, the time of our photoshoot, a bleak prospect. It’s the fifty-fifty chance of rain that kills us. Do we cancel, knowing it will be a pain to realign everyone’s schedules again, or do we go for it, potentially putting ourselves at risk of a rainout in the middle of the woods? Until now, all of our Swift photoshoots have been indoors.
With umbrellas packed in the car and fueled with a dreamer’s optimism, we decided to go for it. And guys, I’m so glad we did! The rain died down, creating a hazy mist in the atmosphere. The light was to die for—eerie, soft, glowing, beautiful light you only see between rainstorms. The temps were a little chilly, but that only gave Ashlyn more reason to cuddle into the Swift cardigan. And the puddles! If you follow us on social media, you know I’m a lover of reflections, and we never would have had those if it hadn’t rained!
Blessed with perfect conditions, we took full advantage of our time and captured photos akin to the magical, moss-covered video that inspired us. All we needed was the piano. Using AI enhancements again, Joel gave us just that!
